WiredTrust’s Executive Summary

WiredTrust is a for-profit entity formed to address all risk management, safety and compliance needs of the Web 2.0 industry, worldwide. Founded by Internet privacy and security lawyer, Dr. Parry Aftab, whom the Boston Herald identified as the “leading expert in cybercrime in the United States,” WiredTrust is the first entity of its kind in the world. It is the “one stop shop” for all the Web 2.0 industry’s risk management and safety needs.

WiredTrust’s clients come from the social networking industry, MMOG community, Internet service providers, cyberdating and job placement sites, as well as mobile networks and communities. Its Charter Members include some of the world’s leading and largest networks. Two advisory boards of business leaders, risk managers and technology experts are being compiled for worldwide technology guidance.

WiredTrust is headquartered in Canada, with satellite offices in the U.S. and, eventually, in key markets around the world.

Its services are offered through WiredTrust employees and carefully-selected experts and strategic partners under one brand – WiredTrust. It expands on existing expertise, housing leading experts under one virtual roof. It uses economies of scale and collaborations to be able to make technologies and approaches available to all Web 2.0 industry members, even those too small to otherwise afford effective risk management. Technology providers are gathered under the WiredTrust brand as well, to address the technology needs of WiredTrust’s clients. Those that qualify for the WiredTrust seal and meet its strenuous qualification standards can be recommended to clients as part of the overall risk management solution.

WiredTrust’s Best Practices Seal is already recognized as the leading seal in its space and some of the world’s largest networks have applied to qualify for this premier standard.

The Needs WiredTrust was Created to Address

WiredTrust fills a current void in the market. While the Web 2.0 and interactive communities industry has experienced rapid growth, the professionalization needed to support this growth is nonexistent. In addition, as the industry matures, it needs to adopt standards of best practices to keep networks safer, more secure and stable. And the pressure being exerted on social networks by regulators for failing to adopt safety standards and risk management is accelerating the market for reliable and professional guidance.

The Web 2.0 industry members also need to focus on building the networks and expanding them into new markets, but are being sidetracked by having to address the risks. Moderating and monitoring the content and communications posted and shared on their networks does not fall within their area of expertise, and is very labor and expertise-intensive. Large and small, online startups and trusted household brands, gaming communities, virtual worlds and business networks, cyberdating sites, blog technologies and photo' and video sharing networks all have one question in common: “How can you protect your network, application or brand when you can’t control your users?” It’s a good question and one WiredTrust is designed to address.

WiredTrust is designed to provide guidance to them on building safer networks, technologies and procedures, as well as offering them turnkey and outsourced solutions using trained and certified abuse management staff and experts.

Every expertise needed can be found in WiredTrust. It will provide best practices guidance and implementations, compliance consulting and, together with leading technology developers, technology solutions and products to assist in risk management and safety design. It will assist sites and networks in the selection and implementation of privacy, law enforcement, security and terms of service policies, support and practices; it will both train and place chief safety officers and moderation staff and executives for the industry, as well and eventually, through large banks of trained support and moderation teams, WiredTrust can provide turnkey monitoring services, support for overtaxed in-house moderation teams and specialty outsourcing of law enforcement, school, parent and regulatory liaison services; freeing up the clients’ resources for business development, rather than day-to-day risk management and site moderation.
