About Tim

Qualifying with an honors degree in education in 1991 he became interested in online issues after maintaining one of the first school Web sites in the U.K. As a senior leader he gained his National Professional Qualification for Head teacher in 2003 and has worked as a consultant to the British Education Communication and Technology Agency (BECTa). Whist there he selected, trained and ran the team hosting the first ever government agency chat room in the world.

As a member of WiredSafety for ten years he has worked with various company, law enforcement and government agencies on matters of online safety and criminality especially in the field of cyberharassment, stalking and child exploitation.

From 2004 Tim worked with the National College for School Leadership designing and creating blended learning experiences for thousands of school leaders, quaility assuring their online delivery across England by national and international companies. Working with a small team overseeing the community of around 200k school leaders he has developed innovative solutions to large scale training delivery.

In 2008 he gained an MSc in Advanced Learning Technologies, with distinction, from Lancaster University, the base of one of Europe's leading academic research groups in the field of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) applied to adult education and training and recently commenced a PhD in E-research.

Tim resides in England with his family and is very active in his local church and community.

Areas of Expertise

Tim McShane is an expert in online communication and facilitation using Web 2.0, communities of practice and 3D networks. As an e-learning designer he has expertise in instructional design, design for learning, and the creation of blended learning experiences to optimize learning for small groups scaling up to cohorts of thousands. As an educationalist he is an expert facilitator and presenter both in online and offline settings using a range of techniques to ensure learning outcomes and processes are achieved.
